Change of Seasons
By Barbara Beck
It’s starting to get chilly here in Florida, and many of you throughout the country are enjoying beautiful fall leaves and milder weather, so I thought I’d share an important Scripture with you as we enter into this new season: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” This comes from II Cor. 5:17. You’ve probably heard this many times, but it really speaks to my heart about how we are new creatures in Christ when we receive Him into our lives, and here with a new season, we can start fresh.
At this point in the year, I like to think of summertime as the past – an old season that has passed away. Maybe you like to start each new month looking at the possibilities, or even each new week! We have a new start in front of us. We are positioned to serve Christ like never before, to be committed to ministering to others, to be focused on our relationship with Jesus as Savior and Lord. That’s exciting to me! We all like new things. Maybe it’s a new car, a new house, new clothes, new friends, whatever. But bigger and better than all those things is having a new life in Christ. The possibilities in front of us are endless.
I like to set goals for myself – really simple, attainable goals that I work on throughout the year. I don’t always accomplish those goals, but at least I make the attempt to improve in my relationship with the Lord and those around me. You’ve heard it before, if you shoot for nothing, that’s what you’ll get. So I shoot for the stars, and maybe I’ll hit one or two.
I challenge you to really pray about how to approach this new season with more passion and obedience to Christ. I know that’s your heart. Together we can try to make it a reality.
